In this Privacy Policy, the “Thurgood Marshall Foundation”, “we”, “our” or “us” refers to the Thurgood Marshall Foundation.

Donation information and history: When you make a donation or opt-in for our communications, we may collect information like name, address, email address, job title/ employer, the amount of your donation, purpose of donation, date of donation, history of previous donations, members of your household, and language preferences. 

In some instances, we may have direct personal contact with you through our donor relationship or your previous employment with Justice Marshall and we may process further information, as you have shared or that is publicly available from sources such as professional networking sites (e.g., LinkedIn), public records, news publications, philanthropic databases, and wealth screening services. This information may include your name, phone number, date of birth, age, gender, employer, job title, professional background, philanthropic interests, information about our communication (e.g., date, reason and result of communication), and your personal preferences with respect to our organization. 

Content you provide through our Website: You may give us your contact information for marketing purposes. We also keep usage data to understand how visitors use our website.

Technical and Usage Information: When you visit our Website, we may automatically collect information like your IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, when you visited, and which pages you viewed.

Fundraising and Third-Party Platforms

Fundraising for the Thurgood Marshall Foundation is conducted through   a secure third-party platform. When you choose to make a donation, you are redirected to the third party’s platform whose  privacy practices and policies are separate from those of our website. Any information you provide to the fundraising platform while donating is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Donor and supporter support

We keep usage data, usually through third-party tools, to understand how our donors, supporters and other website users use our website and services, and to help us respond to questions, requests, and support needs.

How do we share your personal information? 

We may share your Personal Information when we are legally required to do so and with third-parties such as Google Analytics, Google Ads, WordPress Engine, Bloomerang, Stripe, PayPal, and other service providers that have access to our Website. 

When you use our Website, third-party apps may access information about you, like your name and email address. We do not control these third-party apps, and this Privacy Policy does not cover how they use your information. We encourage you to review their privacy policies. We share Personal Information with service providers who perform work for accounting purposes, marketing services, donation tracking, tax and other legal compliance purposes, and marketing.

We also share Personal Information if we are under a duty to disclose in order to comply with any legal obligation, or in order to enforce or apply our terms of use and other agreements; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Thurgood Marshall Foundation, our donors, supporters, or others.

Children’s Data

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the age specified by law in your jurisdiction) without verifiable parental consent, in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). How do we keep your data safe? 

We use technical security measures to protect and secure your personal information. For example, online forms that collect Personal Information are stored on password-protected networks that we regularly monitor. We don’t store Sensitive Personal Information on laptops unless they are password-protected and encrypted. All Sensitive Personal Information is kept in a secure database that only a small number of authorized staff can access. We delete this information when we no longer need it and never share it with third parties, except as we have described in this Privacy Policy.

How can you unsubscribe/opt-out? 

You can stop receiving communication emails from us by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email. Even if you opt out, you may still receive transactional messages about our services or your donations.  

Shine the Light Disclosure

We do not disclose personal information as defined by California Civil Code § 1798.83 (the “Shine the Light Law”) with third parties, for their direct marketing purposes absent your consent. If you are a California resident, you may request information about our compliance with the Shine the Light Law by contacting us via the means specified in the “How can you contact us?” section of this Privacy Policy. Such requests must include “Request for California Privacy Information” in the subject line and include your name, street address, city, state, and ZIP code. Please note that we are only required to respond to one request per person each year, and we are not required to respond to requests made by means other than through the email address or mailing address referenced above.
